Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric will reportedly head to Saudi Arabia at the end of his contract, despite transfer interest from Inter Miami.
According to Sport, the midfield maestro will head out to the Middle East next year when Modric’s current deal with Los Blancos expires.
The 38-year-old veteran has been strongly linked with a move to Inter Miami in recent weeks, though it now seems apparent that Modric will be heading to Saudi Arabia.
With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema all plying their trade in the Arabic state, it makes sense why Modric will now follow his fellow soccer superstars to the Middle East.
As for Inter Miami, missing out on Modric will be viewed as a hammer blow for the MLS franchise, who are looking to sign a midfielder to pair with Sergio Busquets for next year.
Indeed, the experienced Croat would have been a sensational addition to Tata Martino’s side, though Modric to Florida now looks like one transfer that isn’t going to happen.
Inter Miami can move on quickly from Modric
Modric might have been viewed by some as quite an ambitious signing for Inter Miami, yet this update shouldn’t throw any wrenches in the Herons transfer plans.
At 38, the midfielder might have found the physicality and logistics of MLS too much to handle, and as such, a younger alternative to Modric could be more ideal for Inter Miami this winter.
With January still weeks away, the Herons have time to identify new targets and more opportunities in the market, with Inter Miami easily one of the most appealing clubs heading into 2024.
