MLS expert Matt Doyle has teased that Inter Miami could move for FC Barcelona star Sergi Roberto to replace the out-going DeAndre Yedlin.
The USA international is reportedly set to join FC Cincinnati in one of the most surprising departures from Inter Miami this year, with the Herons set to receive over $170,000 in General Allocation Money in exchange.
Yet with Yedlin being Inter Miami’s only natural right-back, there’s now a glaring hole in Tata Martino’s squad, one that could potentially be filled by Barcelona captain Roberto.
Inter Miami tipped to sign Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto

Writing for MLS’s official website, expert and analysis Doyle hinted that Inter Miami could move for Roberto with the Herons having an international roster slot open to make the deal possible.
Whilst a transfer might not happen until the summer, Roberto would be an ideal replacement for Yedlin, especially with the versatile fullback another Barcelona academy graduate.
Doyle said when detailing how Inter Miami could replace Yedlin: “Someone made a Sergi Roberto joke on social media and I chortled momentarily.
“And then I didn’t. Because it makes a good amount of sense, and I can confirm Miami have an international roster slot open to use on him if they want to.”
Inter Miami can’t wait until the summer to replace DeAndre Yedlin

Yedlin’s trade to Cincinnati has caught everyone by surprise, with the defender once viewed as a key player in Inter Miami’s system for the 2024 season.
And although Roberto would be a good replacement for the USA international, Inter Miami simply can’t wait until the summer to sign the Spanish international.
Four months is a long time in soccer, and with Inter Miami starting the season as strongly as they have, the Herons can’t afford to wait so long to replace a key player like Yedlin, who will be missed in Florida.
