Although Inter Miami has been consistently linked with big names in the transfer window, that doesn’t mean other teams can’t interfere with their plans.

One of the big names recently linked to the Herons is Neymar Jr. In fact, Neymar himself wants to join Inter Miami, according to recent reports.

The team based at Chase Stadium have also been linked to Marc Bartra and Kevin De Bruyne. And regarding the latter, there have been some updates.

A recent report stated that Kevin De Bruyne is now Inter Miami’s ‘top transfer target’. However, the Herons won’t have it easy, as they will even face competition from an MLS rival.

San Diego FC interested in landing Kevin De Bruyne in 2025

According to GiveMeSport, sources from California have confirmed that San Diego FC is interested in signing Kevin De Bruyne for 2025.

This could pose a setback for Inter Miami, considering the supposed interest from the team managed by Javier Mascherano.

The mentioned outlet details that, regardless of the interest in the Belgian player, he doesn’t plan to leave Manchester City in January, so it’s likely that any interested club will have to wait until the summer to pursue his signing.

If De Bruyne decides to move to California, it could present an opportunity for Inter Miami to put pressure on the signing of the Brazilian.

Last season it was clear that one of the most important players in the squad was Sergio Busquets, so it wouldn’t be surprising if, upon missing the chance to sign an attacking star like De Bruyne, the Herons went for a midfielder with a different profile.

Kevin De Bruyne better than Neymar, but neither is needed

De Bruyne would definitely be a better signing for Inter Miami than Neymar. Without going into too many details, this is simply due to the availability of both players over the seasons.

Unfortunately for Neymar, the past few years have been a nightmare in terms of injuries, and the Brazilian would likely be unable to play even 50% of the possible matches if you take into account his recent injury record.

For this reason, and considering that De Bruyne can take on a different role in midfield, any role in the middle of the park would be a greater added value for the squad.

However, Inter Miami must prioritize strengthening the team’s defense, as it became evident last season that, despite being one of the teams that scored the most goals, they were also one of the teams that conceded the most.

The Herons are already active in the market, as Inter Miami are about to close the signing of Nahuel Losada. However, we’ll have to wait at least a few more weeks to have more certainty regarding the possible futures of De Bruyne and Neymar.
