Paul Pogba’s Inter Miami links grow as Juventus contract termination moves closer

Inter Miami’s MLS season is over for the year after a shock 3-2 defeat to the lowest-ranked play-off seeds Atlanta United on Saturday. However, it might not all be doom and gloom.

The Herons were the favourites to lift the trophy after an incredible regular season showing which saw them break the MLS record for most points obtained with 74 in just 34 games. This narrowly pipped New England Revolutions 73 back in 2021.

Since Inter Miami’s first MLS game in 2020, which they lost 1-0 to LAFC, the club have grown enormously on and off the field. The star names they have drawn to the club continue to catch eyes and another could be about to head through the door.

The latest star to reportedly be out in Miami a certain Paul Pogba. The current Juventus player could potentially be lining up alongside Lionel Messi next year with reports from Football Italia suggesting that the Frenchman’s contract could be mutually terminated.

Despite MLS sources suggesting Miami’s move for Pogba could potentially be impossible, the David Beckam-owned franchise has been heavily linked with the Frenchman over the past twelve months.

In the summer of 2023, Italian journalist Luca Momblano claimed Miami put ‘an offer on the table’ for Pogba.

Since this news, the 31-year-old has been embroiled in a serious doping scandal and has barely kicked a football in the last 18 months.

The former Manchester United midfielder was initially handed a four-year suspension from football following a discovery by NADO Italia who detected banned testosterone in his system.

This has now been reduced to 18 months on appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) meaning that he will be able to return to training in January and play competitive football again in March. Perfectly timed ahead of a new MLS season.

The World Cup winners Inter Miami links have continued to grow with the 31-year-old spotted at the Chase Stadium back in September for their game against Charlotte.

Pogba also posted out to his sizeable Instagram following back in 2021 with the caption ‘too much sauce’ whilst meeting up with Inter Miami owner Beckham.

Beckham and Pogba’s former Manchester United links could help complete any deal even if it looks tricky to complete on paper.

Inter Miami face Pogba competition

Despite being able to attract some of the biggest names in football including Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba it may not be a simple move to bring Pogba in.

The Athletic have reported that some MLS clubs had put in “discovery calls” with the league. This effectively means that it would potentially allow for the club to sign this player.

LAFC are the front-runners in the race to sign Pogba currently as they still have one of their designated player spots open ahead of the new season with Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud their only current signings.

Inter Miami have already filled their designated player spots ahead of the 2025 season, but this does not mean that a deal couldn’t materialise.

A side which includes the likes of Messi, Pogba and Suarez would surely be music to the ears of all Inter Miami fans.
