Tata Martino has outlined what Inter Miami’s next move will be in the January transfer window after the arrivals of Luis Suarez and Julian Gressel.

The Herons have been busy this off-season with a number of high-profile moves, with Inter Miami adding another superstar name in Suarez as well as a proven MLS attacker in Gressel.

Yet with the likes of Kamal Miller departing for the Portland Timbers, it’s clear that a new defender is needed if Inter Miami are to really compete for top honors this season.

And speaking to the Miami Herald, Martino has stated that the Herons will be moving to do just that before the start of the MLS season, with Inter Miami’s pre-season starting in just a couple of days.

Martino said on potential incoming: “It’s clear that with the departure of Kamal [Miller] to Portland we need a center-back, that is a priority for us.

“Then we have to see which players we may lose. With the arrivals of Luis and Julian we have two very good additions and we haven’t lost many players. Surely there will be more movement before the start of league play.”

Inter Miami’s transfers in recent months have stolen headlines across the entire soccer world, and the Herons could do with more this January in the market.

As Martino himself stated, a replacement for Miller is needed as Inter Miami currently find themselves very short in central defence following the Canadian international’s move to the Timbers.

And with only a few weeks remaining before the start of the regular MLS season, Inter Miami need to get a move on and identify a top defensive signing that could add a tonne of value to the roster.
