Javier Mascherano’s side kicked off their pre-season campaign with a dramatic win in Las Vegas.

Inter Miami overcame Club America on penalties having drawn 2-2 with the Mexican giants in regular time.

Lionel Messi was once again the star of the show, grabbing his first goal of 2025 – the Herons though would have to be rescued late on from an unfamiliar hero.

Heading into the final minutes of the game down 2-1, defender Tomas Aviles would jump highest to head home the equalizer in the 92nd minute – perfectly rounding off an impressive performance from the Argentine.

Inter Miami fans praise Thomas Aviles’ display against Club America

With soccer greats like Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets on the pitch, many fans wouldn’t have been expecting Aviles to be Inter Miami’s savior in Vegas.

The Argentine though rose to the occasion, something that has been recognised by Inter Miami fans.

Speaking on X (formerly Twitter), one fan page claimed Aviles was MOTM.

Another supporter said: “Aviles was by far the best player today. Redondo the worst”

“Aviles and Martinez are the serious CB’s in our team”, a fourth fan said.

Other supporters also highlighted Aviles’ development since he arrived in Vice City.

“He (Aviles) has a lot of potential,” added another fan.

Aviles’ impressive stats vs Club America

Aviles was criticized in the MLS playoffs, with his performance against Atlanta United being one to forget for the defender.

The Argentine’s performances against Club America, however, suggest he may have learned from his mistakes.

With new Miami signing Maxi Falcon now through the door, Aviles’ upturn in performances may be down to increased competition within the Miami ranks – something Javier Mascherano will want to build upon ahead of the 2025 season.
