Inter Miami’s pre-season has passed the midway point after Sunday’s trip to Panama, where the Herons claimed their third win of the Latin America tour.
Tadeo Allende stole the show for Inter Miami fans against Sporting San Miguelito as Benjamin Cremaschi and Fafa Picault joined in on the scoring in a 3-1 win for Javier Mascherano’s side, who are yet to lose this pre-season.
With CD Olimpia coming up next for Inter Miami, the final two games against the Honduran side and Orlando City SC will give supporters the best picture yet of what the Florida franchise’s starting XI could look like on opening day against New York City FC.
However, two key players could absent for Mascherano after what was spotted this week in Inter Miami training heading into this week’s trip to Honduras.
Jordi Alba missing from Inter Miami training alongside David Martinez
Defenders Jordi Alba and David Martinez were not seen in Inter Miami’s open training session, with Mascherano dealt an awkward injury blow for two players who in most circumstances would be in the starting XI.
Alba was Inter Miami’s top assister in 2024 as the former FC Barcelona defender established himself as one of the best fullbacks in MLS, with the 35-year-old left-back proving to be quite the weapon for the Herons under Tata Martino.
As well as Alba, Martinez proved to be a good player for Inter Miami having joined on loan from River Plate last summer, with the defender set to really establish himself this season as one of Mascherano’s main players at the back for the Florida franchise.
Yet as well as Alba and Martinez, another important Inter Miami player was missing from training this week which could cause some problems heading into the final two games of this winter’s pre-season tour.
Federico Redondo also missing for Inter Miami due to recovery
With Alba and Martinez absent from Inter Miami training, Federico Redondo was another player who was missing in this week’s opening session having overloaded a muscle after featuring heavily this pre-season.
Redondo was lauded by Kieran Gibbs as a ‘remarkable’ player having joined Inter Miami last year in a big-money deal from Argentinos Juniors, with the midfielder regarded as one of the most exciting talents in all of South America.
Yet with Inter Miami treating Redondo’s injury with care and attention, there’s every chance that the 22-year-old could be fit in time to play for the Herons against Olimpia, which will be another good test for the Florida franchise.
