Lionel Messi’s teammates respect his greatness.

After winning his eighth Ballon d’Or on October 30th, Messi flew back to South Florida just in time to take part in Inter Miami’s training session.

What awaited him was a sweet surprise by his teammates.

The Miami squad greeted Messi with balloons, confetti, a signed number eight commemorating his eighth Ballon d’Or, a celebration tunnel, and a charming speech from midfielder Gregore.

Messi became the first player in history to win eight Ballon d’Or awards. The Argentine also became the first player in Major League Soccer to achieve the accolade while playing in the league.

Furthermore, in commemoration of this historic event, Messi’s longtime collaborator Adidas released special cleats to celebrate the legend’s career.

The Argentine will now spend the next few months training with Inter Miami, playing in Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers before heading into his second season in MLS.

Messi’s greatness can’t be understated.

Since coming to Inter Miami, the 36-year-old has significantly raised the profile of the game in the United States.

Moreover, Messi has had a huge impact on the field for the club as well.

The Argentine led the Herons to their first title in club history this summer with a Leagues Cup victory over Eastern Conference side Nashville SC.

Messi has also helped cultivate the game of various youngsters throughout the squad, with midfielder Edison Azcona speaking about how helpful the ex-Barcelona man has been: “He gave me soccer advice when I have spoken to him. When I go to receive a ball, he suggests an option to control it and choose a better alternative over another.”

As the team heads into 2024, Messi will look to grow his trophy cabinet with Inter Miami. With a full off-season to rest and the rumors that Luis Suarez could join the team, the 36-year-old could have his best season yet for Miami next year.
