Lionel Messi’s accolades keep growing.
The Argentine international enjoyed a phenomenal last 12 months, cementing his legacy in world football.
Not only did Messi lead Argentina to its first World Cup win since 1986, but he also changed the landscape of American soccer by joining Inter Miami in the summer.
The former Barcelona captain also added to the achievements, winning a historic eighth Ballon d’Or award in late October.
Now, Messi is being honored by his home country for his athletic triumphs.
Messi wins Argentinian highest honor

On December 19th, Lionel Messi was awarded the ‘Olimpia de Oro.’ The achievement is given out annually by the Argentine Circle of Sports Journalists to the top male and female athlete of the year.
According to Argentinian outlet Lavoz de Rosario, this is the 36-year-old’s fourth time winning the award throughout his career.
The ex-Paris Saint Germain forward had a solid 2023. Though the year pales in comparison to 2022, the Argentine international still left his mark on the world stage.
La Albiceleste sits at the top of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings, two points ahead of rivals Uruguay.
Furthermore, after joining Inter Miami in the summer, Messi led the South Florida club to the Leagues Cup title, its first trophy in team history.

As Messi heads into his second season with Inter Miami, expect more moments of greatness.
The Herons are on a mission to improve. Already, the South Florida team has been putting in work during the offseason.
Per The Miami Herald, Miami is in the final stages of signing legendary striker Luis Suárez and coveted free agent wing-back Julian Gressel.
Should these two signings go to plan, the David Beckham-owned side will undoubtedly be the favorite to challenge for MLS Cup, giving Messi the platform to win more trophies.
