An MLS official reportedly thinks Inter Miami are ‘screwed’ after the Herons lack of sales in the January market, having made two big signings.

The Florida franchise have been one of the most active MLS sides in the window in 2024, with Inter Miami signing Luis Suarez to a Designated Player contract with Julian Gressel also joining.

With Nicolas Freire also joining on loan and Inter Miami currently finalizing an $8m deal to sign Argentine youth international Federico Redondo, it’s safe to say Tata Martino’s side have done well in recent weeks.

However, according to the Athletic, it appears that all this spending has caught up with Inter Miami, who now must shed off some players if they’re to meet MLS’ strict roster and salary rules.

As per the report, one MLS officials believes Inter Miami are now ‘screwed’, with the Florida franchise now in a race against time to offload the players needed in order to be roster compliant.

Indeed, this isn’t the first time Inter Miami have been caught out for salary and roster irregularities, and the Herons can’t afford to be left with egg on their face again.

As mentioned, this isn’t Inter Miami’s first rodeo with MLS and their strict salary and roster rules, which arguably in 2024 do need an upgrade to allow for more spending to be made by clubs.

However, with these changes yet to happen, Inter Miami are aware of what they can and cannot do in the market, and the Herons can’t afford to be caught out again.

With a historic season being billed for Inter Miami, the last thing they need is another PR nightmare having already endured a farce of a pre-season tour.

And with time running out, Inter Miami have to ensure that they have their finances in order and everything correct heading into the start of the MLS season next week.
