Inter Miami has had three young stars named to Major League Soccer’s 22 Under 22 list.
The list, released annually, names and ranks the top 22 players under the age of 22 who performed at a high level during the current season.
This year, the list included three Inter Miami players: Benjamin Cremaschi, Facundo Farias, and Diego Gomez.
The trio has enjoyed a fruitful 2023, where all of them made a big impact in one way or another. Since signing for Inter Miami in the summer, Farias and Gomez have quickly integrated into the squad, scoring a combined four goals in 13 MLS regular-season matches.
Cremaschi, has also played well, earning his first senior call-up to the United States Men’s National team this year for his contributions in Inter Miami’s midfield.
Inter Miami’s foundation for the future
The great American singer Whitney Houston once said, “I believe the children are our future.”
For Inter Miami, that sentiment certainly rings true.
Despite the attention given to Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, Inter Miami has done an impressive job bringing in a core group of youngsters that will be the foundation of the club once the highly-rated trio leaves.
This season alone, Farias and Gomez have had a huge impact.
For example, in 10 matches this season, Farias has scored three times and assisted once. Likewise, Cremaschi made his name known on the pitch, notching two goals and four assists in 27 matches.
Though he wasn’t on the initial U22 list, 19-year-old center-back Tomas Aviles is also quickly shooting up the ranks, becoming the go-to center-back under head coach Tata Martino.
As the next season approaches, Cremaschi, Gomez, and Farias will be crucial in the team’s hope of winning more silverware. Alongside other U23 players such as Noah Allen, Ian Fray, Lawson Sunderland, David Ruiz, Inter Miami has a solid group that’s hungry for more.
