Inter Miami have been one of the busiest MLS sides this off-season when it comes to making new signings, with Maximiliano Falcon the latest addition for the Herons.

The Uruguayan defender became the sixth signing for Inter Maimi in the winter transfer window with Falcon arriving from Chilean giants Colo-Colo with a big reputation having starred in last season’s Copa Libertadores.

With Falcon missing pre-season training to force through a move to Inter Miami, it’s clear that the 27-year-old center-back was intent on joining the Florida franchise this window, even at the cost of Colo-Colo legend Leonardo Veliz labelling the South American as a ‘crying idiot’.

Despite the controversy surrounding Falcon’s departure, the defender has now arrived at Inter Miami ahead of the final two games of pre-season, and Javier Mascherano has shared how the Uruguayan can help the Herons in the 2025 campaign.

Mascherano praises Falcon’s ‘experience’ after Inter Miami arrival

Speaking to the press at this week’s open training session, the new Inter Miami manager noted how Falcon’s ‘experience’ at the highest level in South American soccer will be a big bonus for the Herons at the back.

Inter Miami had one of the worst defensive records in MLS last season with Lionel Messi and his attacking teammates the main reason why the Chase Stadium side went as far as they did in all competitions, and Mascherano is seemingly keen to bring Falcon into the fold to sort out these issues.

Mascherano said: “Finally, we were able to finalize his signing. He is someone we targeted from the beginning of the off-season. We knew it would be difficult because Maxi was a very important player for Colo-Colo the past few years and they didn’t want to lose him. But, he will help us a lot.

“He has experience. He has played at the international level in the Copa Libertadores. We know him, people on my staff worked with him on other teams, so we know what he brings. He will help us fulfil a quota of experienced players in the back line that is what we were looking for.”

Who else could Inter Miami sign before the start of the season?

With two pre-season friendlies left and a few weeks to go before the MLS opener against New York City FC, Inter Miami have achieved the bulk of their winter business through a number of good signings and much-needed departures.

Yet some work can still be done, with Mascherano eager to bring Milton Delgado to Inter Miami with the Boca Juniors teenager potentially for sale if an agreement can be reached with the Argentine giants in the coming weeks.

With Inter Miami also working on to sign Baltasar Rodriguez, there’s a real chance that the Herons could make one or even two new additions before the start of the new season, where the squad will look as good as ever to challenge for MLS Cup.
