Three goalkeepers Inter Miami could target after David De Gea transfer links

With the 2023 MLS season way behind us, transfers are firmly on Inter Miami’s mind going into 2024, with David De Gea now believed to be a target.

News broke over the weekend that the former Manchester United superstar is wanted by David Beckham as a potential signing, with De Gea still a free agent having left Old Trafford at the end of his contract.

With Drake Callender arguably Inter Miami’s best player last season not named Lionel Messi, the transfer rumor is an interesting one, with goalkeeper hardly a position that Tata Martino needs to worry about.

Moreover, De Gea’s wages could shatter Inter Miami’s payroll, which begs the question, who should the Herons sign if they were to bring in a new goalkeeper? We explore three options.

Timo Horn

Much like De Gea, it seems crazy to think that a player of Timo Horn’s experience and quality is still a free-agent as we head into 2024.

The former FC Koln star was once regarded as one of Europe’s most underrated goalkeepers and was part of the Germany side that made it to the 2016 Olympic finals in Brazil.

Should Inter Miami want a superstar keeper, Horn could be a viable option in the winter, with the 30-year-old shot-stopper good enough to rival the likes of Roman Burki as the best in MLS.

Maxime Crepeau

Speaking of MLS, one in-league addition Inter Miami could consider is Maxime Crepeau, who as of now is set to leave Los Angeles FC with his contract due to expire at the end of this year.

A Canadian international, a broken leg has kept Crepeau out for most of the year, though the 29-year-old is now back and set to start between the sticks for LAFC in their MLS Cup clash against the Seattle Sounders.

If Crepeau decides to take on a new challenge in MLS, Inter Miami could be an appealing option for the shot-stopper, who could relish in the chance of taking on Callender for the no. 1 jersey.

Josh Cohen

A name that might be familiar to USMNT fans, Josh Cohen has been strongly tipped in recent weeks with a return to America having left Israeli giants Maccabi Haifa this summer.

Competing in last season’s UEFA Champions League, the 31-year-old keeper could be the most realistic option in this list as a potential January signing for Inter Miami.

A comeback in MLS is on the cards for Cohen, and if Martino is in the market for a goalkeeper, the California-born shot-stopper could be the man for the job in Florida.
