Sergi Roberto will reportedly sign a new contract with FC Barcelona despite rumors that Inter Miami are interested in the defender.

The 31-year-old right-back has been linked with a move to Florida as Inter Miami continue to add former Lionel Messi teammates to their ranks after the arrival of Luis Suarez this winter.

And Roberto was reportedly an option for Inter Miami, with former Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho also recently being linked with a move to the MLS franchise.

However, according to Sport, Roberto has now decided to sign a contract extension with Barcelona, ruling out any potential move to Inter Miami this year.

A player who Sergio Busquets is a huge fan of, Roberto would have added a lot of defensive quality to Inter Miami’s ranks heading into the 2024 season.

However, the fullback has made his decision to stay with Barcelona, with Inter Miami now set to return to the drawing board over who they could potentially recruit this January.

Whilst Roberto has been a mainstay for Barcelona over the last decade, the versatile fullback might not be what Inter Miami are looking for this winter.

As we know, the defence has to be what Tata Martino focuses on next in his quest to make Inter Miami as good as possible for the 2024 MLS season.

And whilst Roberto would be an upgrade, the likes of DeAndre Yedlin and the pending Julian Gressel are more than enough for the right-back position for Inter Miami.
