Sergi Roberto won’t be going to Inter Miami any time soon.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, in an interview with Spanish newspaper Sport, Roberto has denied rumors linking him to the South Florida club: “Rumours on Inter Miami or Palmeiras… all lies. I’d like to try MLS experience in the future, but it is not yet the time for it.”
Though the ‘links’ to Brazilian club Palmeiras were a mistranslation on Romano’s part, rumors of Roberto potentially joining Inter Miami have been swirling since early November.
If the rumors were true, the 31-year-old would make a solid addition to Miami’s squad. The Spanish international can play centrally or as a right-back, two positions of need for the Herons.
Additionally, Roberto has an excellent repertoire with Inter Miami’s ex-Barcelona core, Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. The chemistry between the four players would translate on the pitch.
Though the transfer won’t happen in the foreseeable future, Miami will be on the hunt for players that could improve the roster.
Inter Miami’s busy offseason

The offseason is in full swing for Inter Miami.
With the Major League Soccer trade window open, and free agency set to begin on December 13th, the Herons will be busy during the next month.
According to CSO and Sporting Director Chris Henderson, the South Florida club will be aggressive within the transfer market: “We’re looking at everything to [improve the squad.] We have high hopes for 2024, and we want to show what we can do as a club.”
Henderson continued: “Without tipping what we’re going to do in trades, I do feel that we need to have competition in every spot.”
Already, several MLS teams have started to strengthen their rosters with trades around the league. It’s only a matter of time before Miami as an organization begins to make moves.
