Inter Miami can’t catch a break.

After failing to make the playoffs in 2023, Miami was embarrassed at its lack of participation. To remedy the situation, Sporting Director Chris Henderson made it a point to revamp the roster.

“We’re looking at everything to [improve the squad.] We have high hopes for 2024, and we want to show what we can do as a club,” Henderson said in his end-of-year press conference.

“Winning trophies and having high ambition is something we’ve had since day one.”

Miami did win a trophy in 2023 with the Leagues Cup title, however, after that campaign, the Herons fell flat and missed out on the postseason.

Just recently, Inter Miami traded center back Kamal Miller for $625,000 in General Allocation Money. The move angered fans who loved Miller and his passion on the field.

However, according to Henderson, Miami will use this move to bring in other reinforcement.

“We would like to thank Kamal for his contributions as an Inter Miami player on and off the pitch, including helping us win our first-ever title, and wish him all the best in his future,” he said.

“This trade allows us to continue positioning ourselves positively as we aim to further strengthen our squad with our sights set on more titles next season.”

One player who won’t strengthen Miami’s roster currently plays his football in South America.

On Instagram via TYC Sports, Rojo will reportedly stay at Boca Juniors.

The Argentine confirmed his decision in a New Year post on Instagram, stating that he’s looking forward to sharing one more year: “One more year together and may 2024 be much better for all of us.”

Despite the botched transfer, Miami is in the hunt for another central defender. Just recently, the Herons were linked to Botafogo’s Victor Cuesta.

It remains to be seen if Miami will get these moves done, but with two weeks til their first preseason match, anything can change.
