Inter Miami have their sights set on the January transfer window, with early rumors suggesting that the Herons could be in for a busy winter.
Having sold Diego Gomez to Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, the Florida franchise are now in the money and on the hunt for a new forward, with Inter Miami linked with the likes of Neymar as Javier Mascherano looks to bring in a big-name signing.
With Inter Miami also rumored with moves for Boca Juniors forward Miguel Merentiel, South America is clearly a market the reigning Supporters’ Shield holders are looking into when it comes to recruiting a new attacker.
And Inter Miami now have a target in mind from the other giant of Argentine soccer, River Plate.

Inter Miami keeping tabs on River Plate winger Santiago Simon
According to El Crack Deportivo, Inter Miami are monitoring River Plate attacker Santiago Simon, with the 22-year-old winger a regular for the South American titans since emerging from the club’s academy in 2020.
With just six goals and 15 assists in 129 appearances for River Plate, though, Simon’s attacking numbers don’t make for the best of reading for Inter Miami fans, especially when it comes to replacing a player as productive as Gomez.
However, having made 38 appearances in all competitions this season for Simon, the youngster has carved a niche for himself as being a Jack of All Trades-type player, with the winger operating both in central midfield and at right-back this year.

What could Simon’s at Inter Miami be next year?
Inter Miami’s interest in Simon appears to be at an early stage, with the Herons still trying to gauge who they could sign this January and what players would make the most sense for Mascherano’s squad in 2025.
And although Simon’s goal contribution numbers aren’t the best, the winger could be a solid addition for Inter Miami due to how versatile the 22-year-old is, with Julian Gressel becoming one of Tata Martino’s most important players this year due to this trait.
Indeed, Simon has the quality to become a real asset in MLS for Inter Miami, and the Herons would be wise to make a move for the former Argentina youth international, who could jump at the chance to play alongside Lionel Messi and under Mascherano.
