Inter Miami are reportedly pushing to sign Marcelo Weigandt on loan, with the Argentina defender keen to leave Boca Juniors for the MLS franchise.
The Herons have been strongly linked with a move for the 24-year-old right-back for some days, with Weigandt viewed by Inter Miami as their main target to replace DeAndre Yedlin.
Despite Weigandt being sold on a move to Florida already, Inter Miami are unwilling to meet Boca Juniors demands for Weigandt, which currently stand at $1m, a high fee for a defender who will become a free-agent in July.
Inter Miami exploring loan deal for Marcelo Weigandt

Yet according to TyC Sports, Inter Miami are now exploring the option of signing Weigandt on loan, with Boca Juniors considering extending the right-back’s contract in order to make the deal.
Labeled in the report as a ‘dynamic’ defender, Weigandt would thrive at Inter Miami with the Herons having quite the Argentine contingent, led by Tata Martino and club captain Lionel Messi.
Indeed, a new right-back is paramount if Inter Miami are to challenge for silverware this season, with the Herons not having a single natural option in the position at the time of writing.
Which is why this change of tune over signing Weigandt could be significant, with Inter Miami clearly pushing hard to strike a deal with Boca Juniors for the Argentina defender in the coming days.
Herons need to wrap up right-back signing as soon as possible

Inter Miami arguably made a huge mistake in allowing Yedlin to leave without a proper replacement lined up, with the Florida franchise now scrambling to make yet another late signing.
Whilst Weigandt would be a fine addition, the Herons should have reached an agreement with Boca Juniors before Yedlin’s trade to FC Cincinnati was finalized.
Now, Inter Miami are in a race against time to secure the right-back, with Martino in a position where he can’t allow this deal for Weigandt to collapse with the Boca Juniors star clearly the best option out there.
