Inter Miami have been linked with a number of big names this summer, yet the window is likely to end without a superstar name heading to Florida.

Just the one signing has been made in the form of David Martinez on loan from River Plate, with the Paraguay international filling in the void left by Nicolas Freire after the defender picked up an end-of-season injury earlier in the year.

Despite links to Sergi Roberto, Cesar Montes and Raphael Varane, Inter Miami ended the main summer transfer window without a superstar signing, much to the dismay of some supporters.

And it appears that another Inter Miami target could be set to remain in Europe for the summer.

According to ESPN, Weston McKennie has opened discussions with Juventus on signing a new contract with the Serie A giants, with the midfielder’s future a big talking point this summer.

Inter Miami have been linked with a shock move for McKennie, who this window has found himself rumored with a surprise transfer back to the United States and MLS despite being a regular for one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

With FC Cincinnati also interested in McKennie, the midfielder opening discussions with Juventus over a new contract has come as a surprise given how certain it looked like that the USA international would leave the Serie A giants.

However, McKennie engaging in talks with Juventus is a clear sign that the midfielder looks set to remain in Turin, and Inter Miami’s quest for another superstar signing might now go well into January of 2025.

McKennie is not ready yet to move back to MLS

McKennie is arguably the prime example of the MLS academy system working as it should do with the USA international making the move to Europe early having come through as a prospect with FC Dallas.

Yet at 25-years-old, McKennie is not ready yet to return to America with the midfield dynamo’s career in Europe yet to hit its peak, with the Washington-born star knows his time isn’t up yet.

And for Inter Miami, they will need to put their move for McKennie on hold for the time being, with the midfielder in need of more time to hit the heights many US players have in Europe and to add to his growing trophy cabinet.
