Inter Miami insiders reportedly think signing FC Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto is unlikely at this time.
The 32-year-old fullback has been linked with a move to the Florida franchise for some time, with links heating up this week after the departure of Inter Miami right-back DeAndre Yedlin.
With Tata Martino’s side lacking a natural player in the position, rumors have suggested that Roberto could be closing in on a move to Inter Miami to replace the former Herons captain.
Inter Miami move for Sergi Roberto currently unlikely

However, according to the Athletic, Inter Miami insiders aren’t convinced that a move for Roberto will be happening just yet, with the defender’s contract set to expire at the end of this season.
Lauded by Xavi Hernandez as a ‘tremendous’ player, Roberto would be yet another impressive addition to Inter Miami’s ranks as well as the fifth former Barcelona player to make the move to Florida.
Indeed, Roberto would be quite the improvement on Yedlin in the right-back position and another superstar name to add to Inter Miami’s growing roster.
However, this update strongly indicates that a move might be unlikely this summer, and Inter Miami might be making the right decision in not pursuing the Barcelona captain.
Herons need a long-term option at right-back this summer

Yedlin’s departure from Inter Miami has left a noticeable gap in the Herons’ backline, with the Florida franchise in need of a replacement sooner rather than later.
And whilst Roberto would be a quality signing, the defender’s age and projected salary would make a move unfeasible for Inter Miami this summer, who should be looking at a younger option.
Plenty of players are out there who could suit this profile for a fraction of the cost of Roberto, and it’s up to Tata Martino and his front-office to find that perfect candidate.
