David Beckham has revealed Lionel Messi’s retirement plans after his Inter Miami stint.

In a conversation with The Times, the former England international spoke about what Messi could do when he officially hangs up his boots: “I see Leo’s involvement in the league a lot longer than his playing time.”

Beckham continued, saying: “We are very keen to keep him to help attract players and be involved with the football development of the club and football in the US. I think that will be a lot of fun for him as it’s been for me.”

Messi signed with Inter Miami on July 15th, to massive fan excitement. The World Cup winner’s impact on the pitch was felt, as he helped lead Miami to its first trophy in club history with a Leagues Cup title in August.

Unfortunately, the Herons couldn’t keep up that momentum and missed the post-season. Though the Argentine has two years left on his contract, from Beckham’s comments, it’s clear that the South Florida team plans on keeping him around for far longer.

It’s hard to imagine Messi retiring, but the day is inevitable. The moment the 36-year-old decides to retire will be a sad day for world football.

Until that day comes, Inter Miami fans will enjoy the last few years he has left in his illustrious career.

As the new year approaches for the Herons, Messi is hungry to win more trophies and add to his legacy.

Speaking before Miami’s match-up against NYCFC, the midfielder stated he wants to bring more success to Fort Lauderdale: “We are going to continue enjoying and winning titles. I hope you accompany us as you accompanied us all these months that I’ve been here.”

Whatever happens to Inter Miami in 2024, what’s apparent is that the club wants to win more silverware. Whether that occurs remains to be seen. But, with the team’s off-season roster plans in motion, expect Miami to challenge for MLS Cup.
