Following an impressive season with Inter Miami, midfielder David Ruiz earned a spot on the Honduran U23 National Team for the 2023 Pan American Games.
Ruiz was born in Miami and then raised in Honduras until the age of five. Possessing American citizenship, Ruiz could’ve played for the United States, a decision he wrestled with before fully committing to Los Catrachos.
The 19-year-old joined Inter Miami’s academy in 2021, where he quickly rose to fame. His technical ability, tenacity, and footballing IQ made him a standout at his age level. Ruiz would then sign a first-team contract on April 23rd of this year.
“David is a good player who has grown a lot within our system over the last few years and has already shown he can compete at this level. We’re very excited to continue to help him along his upward trajectory at the Club,” said Inter Miami Sporting Director Chris Henderson at the time.
Since then, Ruiz has gone on to score three goals in 30 appearances at the club.
Inter Miami teenage star

Ruiz is just one of the many young talents Inter Miami has on its roster.
Alongside Ruiz, Benjamin Cremaschi, Noah Allen, Diego Gomez, Facundo Farias, Tomas Aviles, Lawson Sunderland, Edison Azcona, and Ian Fray have shown that they’re capable of contributing meaningful minutes to the first team.
As the club shifts to the 2024 season, expect the youth movement in Miami to become a crucial part of the team’s success.
To compensate for the aging trio of Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, the Herons need younger players.
Specifically, midfielders like Ruiz have shown they’re able to carry the physical load when the older trio can’t.
With 2024 quickly approaching, Ruiz and other youngsters will provide the energy and stamina to cover for their veteran teammates.
