Speaking on MLS Extratime, expert Matt Doyle brought up how Inter Miami missed out on the chance to sign Raphael Varane, with the defender set to join newly promoted Serie A side Como 1907 this summer.
With Inter Miami strongly linked with a move for Varane this summer, missing out on the 31-year-old will come as a major blow for the Herons, with the former Real Madrid and Manchester United exactly what the Florida franchise are looking for in this window.
Doyle said on Inter Miami missing out on Varane this summer: “The question I have is, are they going to be able to get a proven high-level European center-back to take some sort of ‘Friends of Messi’ pay cut?
“Varane would have been instantly the best center-back in MLS by a mile, he’s awesome, but there are more guys like that out there. I think if they get one of those guys, then this team jumps Columbus and becomes the favorites.”
