2024 is the year Lionel Messi can win another major trophy.

The Argentine international has won over 40 major trophies throughout his career for both club and country. At Inter Miami, he’s already managed to achieve another one in the summer with the Leagues Cup title.

With next season around the corner, expect Messi and Inter Miami to challenge for even more.

MLS Cup is the next major trophy for the 36-year-old to conquer. Although the Herons fell short of the playoffs in 2023, next year is shaping up to look quite different.

First, a full offseason of rest for Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets will allow for recovery ahead of an action-packed year.

Furthermore, it’s widely known among MLS journalists and pundit circles that European talent in their second year in the league usually do much better.

With the trio fully fit, Miami will be comfortable and be able to challenge for the top spot in the east.

Moreover, according to a report from The Miami Herald, ex-Barcelona forward Luis Suárez will join the team in January. That will give Miami’s attack extra firepower in the final third, as well as experience.

In the tactics department, Tata Martino will have a full preseason to implement the style of play that suits the personnel available. One player that will ideally work well in Martino’s proposed 3-5-2 system is wing-back Julian Gressel.

According to Tom Bogert at The Athletic, Columbus Crew defender Julian Gressel could be on his way to South Florida. The German-American is excellent on the ball and has a strong work rate.

Gressel would work well with Messi on the right side, seeing as though the Argentine likes to free-roam on the pitch.

Ultimately, Miami’s busy offseason has just begun. If they want to help Messi win another major trophy, then revamping the roster is a must.
