Messi etched his name into football history a year ago.

On December 18th, 2022, the former Barcelona forward led his country to its third World Cup title in history, defeating France on penalties in the final.

It was a difficult match for La Albiceleste. France had an incredible front attacking line that consisted of Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Greizmann, Olivier Giroud, and Ousmane Dembele.

However, Messi carried his team in the final, ending the match with two goals and three chances created.

To commemorate the anniversary, the Argentine took to Instagram on Monday, December 18th, to remember what he achieved: “One year of the most beautiful craziness of my career. Unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime. Happy anniversary to everyone!!!”

Now, Messi will continue to rest before starting his second season at Inter Miami in January.

2024 is a highly anticipated year for Inter Miami.

Not only are they looking to challenge for MLS Cup, but also put on a good showing in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Team Sporting Director Chris Henderson told the media in his end-of-year press conference, that the Herons will be active in the trade market to improve its roster: “Without tipping what we’re going to do in trades, I do feel that we need to have competition in every spot.”

Henderson continued, saying that the front office is evaluating every position within the organization: “We’re evaluating every department in our front office and performance staff, to support [Tata Martino] and his staff and all the players to make sure we’re performing everywhere in the club.”

Already, Inter Miami has been linked with two players that would significantly improve its trophy chances.

According to The Miami Herald, Luis Suárez is finalizing a deal to join the team in January. On the defensive front, per The Athletic, Miami is in pole position to land wing-back Julian Gressel.

Ultimately, Inter Miami needs to capitalize on Messi’s time at the club. Though he’ll only be here for two more years, the Herons must fight for more silverware in 2024.
