Rivals already have their eyes on Lionel Messi and Inter Miami as they head into 2024.
In an exit interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, 2023 Major League Soccer MVP and FC Cincinnati midfielder Luciano Acosta discussed Miami’s Eastern Conference title ambitions: “They have the best player in the world,” Acosta said.
“They’ll be a very good team. We have the level to play with them.”
Cincinnati finished the year at the top of the East as they fell short of the MLS Cup Final, losing 3-2 to the Columbus Crew in extra time during the Eastern Conference semi-final.
Led by the aforementioned Acosta, Cincinnati enjoyed a historic year, winning the club’s first-ever Supporter’s Shield trophy given to the team with the best record in MLS.
The Orange and Blue will undoubtedly look to retain its crown next season, but with Miami and Messi lurking in the shadows, nothing is guaranteed.
Inter Miami’s exciting 2024

Inter Miami is amid a roster revamp.
The 2023 season ended on a sour note for the Herons. The Fort-Lauderdale-based club failed to make the playoffs despite winning the Leagues Cup title in the summer.
To avoid that same fate, reinforcements will be on the way. According to The Miami Herald, striker Luis Suárez is finalizing a deal that will see him join Inter Miami on a one-year deal.
When the Uruguayan reunites with his ex-teammates, expect Miami’s attack to change with his presence.
Head coach Tata Martino has already spoken out about a potential formation change in 2024.
After Inter Miami’s loss against NYCFC on November 10th, the Miami manager stated that the club could switch to a back three to accommodate the personnel: “The team seems to be more solid with a line of five. This is something we will improve on over the off-season.”
The Herons are itching for more success in 2024.
With Suárez on the horizon and trades to be made, the South Florida team will likely see Acosta’s prediction come true and challenge for the top spot in the East.
