David Beckham is reportedly eager to sign Sergi Roberto for Inter Miami, who is expected to leave FC Barcelona this summer.

The 32-year-old La Liga captain is no stranger to links to MLS, with Roberto already rumored with a move to Inter Miami as the Herons continue to add to their Barcelona afterparty.

Luis Suarez was signed this winter after Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba joined Tata Martino’s side last summer, with Inter Miami’s squad arguably the strongest in MLS history.

And according to El Gol Digital, Inter Miami co-owner Beckham is keen to bring Roberto to Florida, with the versatile midfielder already open to the idea of heading to MLS this summer.

Previous reports had stated that Roberto wasn’t ready just yet to move to America if the 32-year-old decided to leave Barcelona at the end of this season, though it appears that opinions have now changed.

Praised by Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez as a ‘tremendous’ captain, Roberto would add quite a lot to Inter Miami’s squad in terms of leadership and tactical flexibility.

However, given how much Roberto would cost and what Inter Miami actually need adding to their squad in the summer, the Barcelona star might be a poor fit for the Herons.

Having already been in hot water with MLS this year over roster and salary requirements, Inter Miami can’t afford to put themselves in a similar position again this summer.

The Herons already have the biggest payroll out of any club in the division, and whilst Roberto would be a nice signing, the midfielder is simply not what Inter Miami are in need.

As a result, Inter Miami need to be smart and efficient in who they recruit this summer, with shrewd signings and hidden gems on the agenda for the Florida franchise.
