Inter Miami have reportedly beaten the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid to the signing of Argentine youth international Federico Redondo.

The 21-year-old Argentinos Juniors talent has been strongly linked with a move to the Herons in recent weeks, with Inter Miami making an $8m offer to sign Redondo in the past few days.

With the likes of Barcelona and Madrid also linked with Redondo, the odds of Inter Miami beating arguably the two biggest clubs in Europe seemed slim, to say the least.

Yet according to Gaston Edul, Inter Miami have won the race for Redondo, with the TyC Sports journalist saying: “Federico Rendondo is a new Inter Miami player for an offer that exceeds 8 million dollars.”

Lauded by Total Football Analysis as an ‘excellent’ defensive midfielder, Inter Miami actually beating two of soccer’s biggest teams for Redondo is nothing short if incredible.

Whilst the signing of Luis Suarez has taken more headlines, Redondo could be the catch of the year for Tata Martino’s side, who now have a perfect long-term partner for Sergio Busquets in the midfield.

Inter Miami have already made what many would argue is the biggest transfer in MLS history in Lionel Messi, with the Argentine already changing the landscape of soccer in the US since arriving last summer.

Yet the addition of Redondo could be as important given who was chasing the midfielder this winter and where the 21-year-old eventually ended up.

Indeed, MLS clubs have made a real effort to sign South America’s biggest and best in recent years, yet few teams are yet to go toe-to-toe with European powerhouses for these players and come out top.

Inter Miami have managed just that and have done so in incredible fashion, with Redondo now set to join the Herons despite genuine interest from Barcelona and Madrid.
