Inter Miami have reportedly joined the race to sign a former Real Madrid star who has stated he prefers Lionel Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Herons have undergone an FC Barcelona transformation of late after last year’s signing of Messi, with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba joining Inter Miami that summer with Luis Suarez arriving this January.

With former Barcelona manager Tata Martino also in the hot seat, the La Liga giant’s influence is strong at Inter Miami, yet it hasn’t stopped the likes of Real Madrid legends Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric being linked with a move to Florida.

And another former Los Blancos star is now being linked with Inter Miami.

Inter Miami eye swoop for Colombian superstar James Rodriguez

According to journalist Omar Ore, Inter Miami are in the race to sign former Real Madrid playmaker and Colombian superstar James Rodriguez, who could be set to leave Sao Paulo this summer.

Inter Miami will face a battle to sign Rodriguez, though, with MLS rivals LA Galaxy also interested in the 32-year-old with Peruvian giants Alianza Lima also in talks to sign the former Madrid man.

Ore wrote: “James Rodriguez is in conversations with Alianza Lima. Both parties are seeking an agreement, but there is also interest from LA Galaxy and Inter Miami of the MLS.”

A player who previously claimed that Messi is better than Ronaldo, Rodriguez heading to Inter Miami would be quite the move for the Herons, yet it appears that rival teams might have the edge on the Florida franchise.

Inter Miami might not have capacity to sign Rodriguez

WIth Inter Miami’s three Designated Player spots filled, signing Rodriguez could already be off the table before the rumor has even had enough time to breath and to develop.

The 32-year-old is one of the biggest names in South American soccer despite not being at the top of his game for some years, and Rodriguez could demand quite the salary if he so wishes from Inter Miami.

Indeed, Rodriguez would be a fantastic fit for the Herons had they not gone down the Messi route, and with the Galaxy also interested, the Colombian could end up in MLS via another franchise in the coming weeks.
