Inter Miami have finally sorted out their goalkeeping shortage by securing a deal for one Argentinian shot-stopper, however, it’s not a new face.

The Herons have been in the market for a goalkeeper since the end of the MLS season and have been linked with several names.

Lanus goalkeeper Nahuel Losada was on Inter Miami’s radar but they recently reached a stalemate with the shot-stopper.

Javier Mascherano has spoken about his transfer ‘worries’ but it looks as if the goalkeeping situation may now be sorted.

Inter Miami welcome back Oscar Ustari

While many Inter Miami fans are eager to see new faces at the club they will be thankful that squad numbers are being bolstered.

Argentine goalkeeper Oscar Ustari has signed a new contract with the club until the end of 2025 according to journalist German Garcia Grova.

Ustari, who is now 38, has been without a club after his Inter Miami contract ran down at the end of 2024. The club chose not to renew this straight away as they looked at alternative options.

Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman was one of Inter Miami’s targets, however, a deal appears to have gone quiet.

Ustari made just one MLS appearance last season having joined from the Chilean side Audax Italiano, where he kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory against Toronto FC.

Ustari unlikely to challenge Callender

Inter Miami were certainly looking for a new goalkeeper who could potentially challenge Drake Callender for the No.1 spot.

However, the return of Ustari, who couldn’t take the shirt off of Callender last season, means the US star can likely breathe easy.

Callender will miss Inter Miami’s first pre-season game, which means Ustari will be guaranteed a start against Club America.

The veteran will be looking to impress his new manager who could look favorably on his countryman.

Inter Miami will need a strong goalkeeper for their opening MLS game. The Herons face a tough New York City FC side on February 22nd.
