Inter Miami are set for a hectic January transfer window, with some big moves expected both in and out of the club.
The Herons have already been rumored with moves for some huge players, with Neymar still wanted by Inter Miami as the Florida franchise are also in the race for Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, who could be available for free next year.
As well as signings, Inter Miami players have been linked with moves away from Chase Stadium, with Boca Juniors interested in signing Facundo Farias with Diego Gomez already completing a club-record transfer to Brighton & Hove Albion.
And Boca Juniors seemingly have another Inter Miami player in mind as a potential target.
Boca Juniors eager to sign Inter Miami forward Matias Rojas
According to Damian Rancez, Boca Juniors president and Argentine soccer legend Juan Roman Riquelme is eager to sign Inter Miami forward Matias Rojas, who only join the Herons earlier this year as a free-agent.
Rancez said: “Matias Rojas is Gago’s greatest desire for Boca. Juan Roman Riquelme will try to sign him, but a lot will depend on what Inter Miami wants. If they can add him, it will be key for the coach, or else they will look for another alternative on the market.”
With Inter Miami putting Rojas up for the MLS Expansion Draft and the winger yet to sign a new contract with the Herons, there is space in the January transfer market for Rojas to leave Florida if Boca Juniors come in with an offer.
And given the size of the South American club, Rojas could be tempted to make the move to Argentina, especially if Boca Juniors can offer the Paraguay international regular first-team minutes, something Inter Miami cannot do when Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are fit.
Rojas departure could allow Inter Miami to sign new superstar forward
With Inter Miami interested in signing a big-name attacker, there’s a good chance that a current forward will have to make way to both give the Herons the salary cap space to make the signing possible as well as to clear up a spot in the squad.
And of the options outside of Messi and Suarez, Rojas is arguably the best player for Inter Miami to sacrifice in the January market, with Leonardo Campana a Desginated Player and Farias only just returning from a season-long injury.
Indeed, Rojas only joined this year and is at a stage in his career where he will want to be playing regularly should Paraguay make the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and a move to Boca Juniors could provide just that next year.
