Inter Miami is heading into next year with high expectations.

2023 was a roller coaster ride, featuring injuries, big-time signings, and trophy-winning matches.

Unfortunately, the season ended on a low note as the Herons failed to make the playoffs. Although missing out on the postseason is disappointing, 2024 looks promising.

Not only will the Herons have a full off-season of rest for Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, but the club intends to revamp the squad with the rumored addition of Luis Suárez.

As much as having the right players helps the club win games, tactically, getting the correct formation is just as important.

Head coach Tata Martino has already spoken about switching formations next year to get the most out of his players.

As Miami heads into 2024, the Herons will have a new look on the field that will help them win more trophies.

Inter Miami can approach its 2024 formations in a variety of ways.

The Herons had the most success when they rolled out in a 4-3-3 during their Leagues Cup title run. Eventually, Martino’s tactics would morph as the season went on.

The Miami manager went on to use a 3-5-2, a 4-2-3-1, and even a 4-4-2 to varying success. Next season, Martino hinted in a press conference that a permanent change to a back three would be the ideal formation for the squad: “The team seems to be more solid with a line of five. This is something we will improve on over the off-season.”

Club Sporting Director Chris Henderson touched on Martino’s sentiments, stating that the team will be active in the trade market to fit this potential change: “Without tipping what we’re going to do in trades, I do feel that we need to have competition in every spot.”

Ultimately, Miami will want to remain flexible.

The three formations that looked the strongest for the Herons were the 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1, and 4-3-3. The personnel on the roster fits these lineups well, and Miami will undoubtedly switch between these three as the next season progresses.
